IPL 2019: Delhi Capitals knock Sunrisers Hyderabad out

Visakhapatnam [Andhra Pradesh], May 8 (ANI): Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by two wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium here on Wednesday. Prithvi Shaw's half-century and Rishabh Pant's 49 run inning helped their side to get a step closer to the IPL title whereas Hyderabad's campaign came to an end with this defeat.
Chasing a target of 163, Delhi had a decent start as they witnessed a 66-run opening partnership between Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan. In the eighth over, Deepak Hooda provided Hyderabad with their first breakthrough in the form of Dhawan (17).
Skipper Shreyas Iyer then came out to bat on one down. Shaw played an impeccable knock and went on to score his second half-century of this season of IPL which came out from just 31 deliveries.
Khaleel Ahmed stunned Delhi as he sent both the set batsmen, Iyer (8) and Shaw (56), back to the pavilion in the 11th over. Rishabh Pant and Colin Munro then came out to bat.
However, in the 15th over Rashid Khan displayed a similar performance as he bowled double-wicket maiden, getting hold of Munro (14) and Axar Patel (0). Delhi's half squad was sent back to the pavilion on 111 runs.
Sherfane Rutherford then accompanied Pant. Pant came out strikingly on Basil Thampi in the 18th over as he added 20 runs to the scoreboard off the first four deliveries of the over. Bhuvneshwar Kumar then provided some hope to his side as he sent both onfield batsmen, Rutherford (9) and Pant (49), back to the pavilion.
However, the damage was already done by Pant's 49-run cameo off just 21 balls as Delhi needed only five runs to win in the last over. Keemo Paul smashed a four and took his side over the line and registered a two-wicket victory.
Earlier, Hyderabad were sent to bat first and had a decent start as both the openers, Wriddhiman Saha and Martin Guptill, struck regular boundaries before Ishant Sharma got hold of Saha (8) in the fourth over.
Manish Pandey then joined Guptill. Guptill played furiously and relied more on the maximums as he hammered four sixes and a boundary. However, Amit Mishra came into the attack in the seventh over and made Guptill his victim, who scored 36 runs off just 19 balls.
Skipper Kane Williamson then came out to bat and stitched a 34-run partnership with Pandey. Both played cautiously, however, Keemo Paul sent Pandey (30) back to the pavilion in the 13th over.
Shortly after that Williamson (28) too lost his wicket in the 16th over as he was bowled by Ishant Sharma.
Vijay Shankar and Mohammad Nabi then took control of the inning and kept the scoreboard running. Both formed a 36-run partnership. In the 19th over, Shankar tried to make the most as he smashed a boundary and then a six off the first two deliveries.
He did not stop right there and tried to play another big shot. However, on the third delivery, he gave away an easy catch to Axar Patel off Trent Boult's delivery. Shankar scored 25 runs off just 11 deliveries.
Last over bowled by Keemo Paul was full of ups and downs for Hyderabad as they gave away three wickets but scored 11 runs in the over which helped them put up a total of 162 runs.
Delhi will now face Chennai Super Kings on May 10 and whosoever wins the match will reach the final where they will compete with Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2019 title.
