Abu Dhabi [UAE], November 8 (ANI): After registering a 17-run win over SunRisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer said that the team's journey has been like a rollercoaster in this edition of the tournament.
Kagiso Rabada took four wickets while Marcus Stoinis scalped three wickets as Delhi Capitals defended a total of 189 runs to progress to the finals of the Indian Premier League.
This is the first time that Delhi has progressed to the finals of the IPL. For SunRisers, Kane Williamson played a knock of 67 runs.
"Best feeling ever. The journey has been a rollercoaster. End of the day we stuck together as a family. Very happy with the effort every individual has put in. It has taught me many things. A lot of responsibility comes with being a captain. But have been getting support from coaches and support staff. On top of that, the team has been so special. Really fortunate to have such an amazing team. The emotions keep going high and low, so you can't have the same set of routines," Iyer told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.
Earlier, Shikhar Dhawan and Shimron Hetmyer played knocks of 78 and 42 respectively as Delhi Capitals posted a total of 189/3 in the allotted twenty overs.
In the final four overs, Delhi Capitals managed to add 44 more runs to their total and as a result, the side posted a score of more than the 180-run mark. For Delhi, Shikhar Dhawan was the top-scorer as he played a knock of 78 runs, while Hetmyer remained unbeaten on 42.
"Hoping that in the next game as well, against Mumbai Indians, the biggest team, we're able to play freely. We're going at 10 runs per over, but we know Rashid can be lethal in the middle. The plan was to not give him wickets. Were lacking with the opening partnership. Needed a rocket start, We thought if he goes and plays maximum deliveries he can give us a good start," said Iyer.
For SRH, Jason Holder, Sandeep Sharma, and Rashid Khan took one wicket each. (ANI)
