Indore T20I: Rohit enters history books as India set mammoth target for Lanka

Indore [India], Dec 22 (ANI): India's stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma produced yet another brilliant performance, as he slammed a quick-fire century helping his side set a mammoth target of 261 runs for Sri Lanka in the penultimate second T20I of the three-match series here at the Holkar Stadium on Friday.

After being asked to bat first, Rohit notched up his second T20I century off just 35 balls besides also sharing a huge partnership of 161 runs with KL Rahul (89) for the opening wicket to guide the hosts close to the series win.

Rohit was out after scoring 118 runs, which included 10 sixes, at an astonishing batting strike-rate of 274.42.

Meanwhile, the stand-in skipper has also entered the record books as he became the joint-fastest centurion, equaling South African David Miller's record in T20I.

He also became the first Indian cricketer to hit two centuries in the shortest format of the game.

Besides Rohit and KL Rahul, wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni also smashed two boundaries and two sixes before falling cheaply for 28.

India eventually posted a score of 261-5, thus crossing their previous highest T20I score of 244-4.

At the time of filing of this report, Lanka have started their innings and have reached 62-1, with Upul Tharanga (20) and Kusal Perera (15) batting at the crease.

India are currently leading the three-match T20I series against Lanka 1-0 following a massive win by 93 runs in the first match in Cuttack. (ANI)
