Katunayake [Sri Lanka], Sep 16 (ANI): Indian women's cricket team slumped to a three-wicket defeat against the Sri Lankan side in a thrilling final ODI of the ongoing three-match series on Sunday.
The Indian team, however, registered the series to their name as they had won the first two ODIs.
Chasing a target of 253 runs, Sri Lanka went on to win the match in the penultimate ball of the game as their right-hand batsman Kavisha Dilhari played a match-winning cameo of 12 runs in seven balls which also included two fours.
Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu also played a centurion knock of 115 runs which helped the team revive after they lost some early wickets in the match.
Earlier, Indian skipper Mithali Raj had put up an individual total of unbeaten 125 runs to take the Indian score to a safe total of 253 runs. Raj, along with left-hand batsman Smriti Mandhana, built a second-wicket partnership of 102 runs after India lost opener Jemimah Rodrigues in the very first over of the match.
The series held significance for both the sides as with every win, each team accumulated important ICC Women's Championship points, which contributed towards Women's World Cup qualification. (ANI)
