Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Oct 13 (ANI): After dismissing West Indies for 311, India ended the second day of the second Test on a strong note and posted 308/4 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Saturday.
West Indies, which began the day with 295 for 7, could only add 16 runs to take their total to 311. Pacer Umesh Yadav was the stand out bowler for India as he registered his best bowling figures in Test cricket (6/88).
Despite KL Rahul's (4) early dismissal, youngster Prithvi Shaw gave a powerful start to India as he posted 70 runs from just 53 balls before giving away his wicket to slow left-arm bowler Jomel Warrican. Shaw was followed by Cheteshwar Pujara (10) at the score of 3-102.
Thereafter, captain Virat Kohli gave a little bit of momentum to his side in a small yet effective partnership with Ajinkya Rahane. Kohli (45) couldn't manage to stand at the crease for a long time as he got out to Jason Holder.
However, Rahane (75 not out) was later joined by Rishabh Pant (85 not out) at the crease and the two stood tall against the West Indies balling attack and managed to stay unbeaten at stumps.
India now trails by just three runs against West Indies with six wickets in hand.
The Men in Blue are currently leading the Two-match Test series 1-0. If they manage to win this match, it would be their 10th consecutive series win at home since 2013.
The ongoing series against West Indies is part of India's preparation ahead of the crucial Test series against Australia and the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup. (ANI)
