Honoured to have gate at Kotla stadium named after me: Sehwag

New Delhi [India], Oct 31 (ANI): Former India opener Virender Sehwag on Tuesday said he is honoured to have a gate named after him at the Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.

The Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) on Tuesday named Gate No. 2 of the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium as the 'Virender Sehwag Gate', a day before India is set to play New Zealand at the stadium.

It must be a day of immense pride for the right-handed opening batsman, as he is the first player to get this distinction at the Kotla.

Inaugurating the Virender Sehwag Gate, the former captain said, "This is a good initiative. This is a big day for the players who have represented Delhi. I am thankful to DDCA. Soon gates, dressing rooms, stands and areas in the stadium will be named after former cricketers. The initiative has started with me, but will end with other players."

Sehwag said the move would motivate aspiring cricketers.

"When kids will cross this gate, they will feel motivated to become players, to play for the country," he said.

Recalling his cricket days, Sehwag said, "I have a lot of memories at Feroz Shah Kotla. When I played U-19 here, I used to cross this gate. Then I used to feel, one day may be this gate will have my name encrypted. So, it happened today."(ANI)
