Hamstring injury rules Jadhav out of Lanka ODIs

Mumbai [India], December 9 (ANI): In a major blow to India, batsman Kedar Jadhav has been ruled out of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring injury.

Confirming the news, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said that the 32-year-old sustained hamstring injury during a training session on Friday and now he will have to undergo scans.

As a result, Tamil Nadu all-rounder Washington Sundar has been called in the squad as a replacement of Jadhav.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Washington Sundar as the replacement for Kedar Jadhav for the Paytm ODI series against Sri Lanka," the BCCI said.

"Jadhav suffered a left hamstring injury during training on Friday, December 9 and will undergo scans. The BCCI Medical Team will continue to monitor him," the board added.

Jadhav was named only for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, beginning at the Himachal Pradesh Association (HPA) Stadium in Dharamsala tomorrow.

Sundar seems to have got a nod in the national side on the back of his consistent performances in the domestic circuit in the recent times.

He made an impressive performance for the Rising Pune Supergiant in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year besides also being prolific with both bat and the ball in the Duleep Trophy.

The three-match ODI series will see the absence of Indian skipper Virat Kohli, who has also been rested for three T20Is that follows.

Rohit, who led Mumbai Indians to three championships in the Indian Premier League (IPL), was named the 24th captain of the Indian team and is now all set to make his international captaincy debut.

The Indian ODI squad is as follows:

Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Siddarth Kaul, Washington Sundar. (ANI)
