Emergency in Lanka won't affect T20I Tri-series: BCCI

Mumbai [India], March 6 (ANI): The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday notified that the state of emergency in Sri Lanka would not affect the first match of the Tri-Nation Nidahas Twenty20 Cup which was scheduled between India and Sri Lanka at Colombo's Premadasa Stadium.

"There have been reports of curfew and an emergency being called in Sri Lanka. The situation is in Kandy, not Colombo. After talking to concerned security personnel, we have understood that situation is completely normal in Colombo," the BCCI said in a statement.

Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council chairman Rajeev Shukla, told ANI, "BCCI is in constant touch with team management. The match is scheduled today from 7.30 pm. So all precautions will be taken. I don't think there should be any problem for the team and so far the match is on. As the situation unfolds, we will see."

The Sri Lankan government on Tuesday decided to impose a state of emergency for 10 days to control law and order, following the violence against the minority community in Kandy district over the last two days.

The decision comes, after a curfew was reimposed on Monday in two police divisions of Kandy district till Wednesday morning following the tense situation.

The Nidahas Trophy as per schedule is supposed to begin from Tuesday and will conclude on March 18. Besides Indian team, Bangladesh is the other team involved in the series. (ANI)
