Dickwella, Gunathilaka omitted from SL squad for Bangladesh ODIs

The 38-year-old spinner continues to climb up the charts 17 years deep into international cricket, delivering a fine spell of 2/13 in 3.4 overs against Sri Lanka in a massive win over the co-hosts at Pallekele.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Pramod Madushan as a replacement for Eshan Malinga in the Sri Lanka squad, as per a release.

Heading into the tournament, Sri Lanka have been largely sub-par at home and have lacked the big tournament/match pedigree which made them such a fearsome unit during the golden days of Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga and Muttiah Muralitharan. However, with a considerable amount of T20 experience under their belt, it is just about peaking at the right time for the Lankan boys in their homeland.

After the preliminary squad was announced in December, Sri Lanka has today released its final squad, per the ICC, with batter Kamindu Mendis making the cut, and so does pacer Eshan Malinga, who injured his shoulder during the 2nd T20I against England and will miss Tuesday's final T20I at Pallekele.

After a lengthy rain interval, when Malinga bowled the third ball of the eighth over to Tom Banton, he ended up jerking his left shoulder, his non-bowling one, while delivering the ball and fell on the ground during his follow-through. He was left clutching his shoulder in pain. The delivery turned out to be a beamer and was declared a no-ball.
