Perth [Australia], January 28 (ANI): Tom Curran on Sunday took a five wicket haul at the new Perth Stadium, helping England win the fifth and final One Day International (ODI) match against Australia by 12 runs. The English team clinched the Gillette ODI series 4-1.

Perth [Australia], January 28 (ANI): Tom Curran on Sunday took a five wicket haul at the new Perth Stadium, helping England win the fifth and final One Day International (ODI) match against Australia by 12 runs. The English team clinched the Gillette ODI series 4-1.

Having being sent into bat, the English team looked comfortable and confident at the Optus Stadium, with opener Jason Roy christening the new venue with a four off the first delivery of the match.

Roy (49) and Jonny Bairstow (44) added 71 for the first wicket.

Alex Hales chipped in with 35, while Joe Root (62) slammed another half-century.

Andrew Tye was the pick of the bowlers for Australia, claiming five wickets.

Chasing 260, the hosts fell 12 runs short despite an impressive half-century from all-rounder Marcus Stoinis.

Stoinis (87) consolidated the Australian innings after openers David Warner (15) and Travis Head (22) departed early.

Glenn Maxwell (34) and Tim Paine (34) nearly lifted Australia towards the end, however lethal bowling from Curran ensured that both were back in the pavilion before seeing their team through.

Moeen Ali scalped three wickets.

Tom Curran was the Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul for 35 runs.

Joe Root was named Player of the Series. (ANI)
