Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], Jan 7 (ANI): Following India's maiden victory on Australian soil, former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin on Monday said the top-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara played really well in the Test format.
"Such thing has never happened before. I am very happy that it has happened this time. Congratulations to the Indian side as they have worked very hard. Special mention goes to Cheteshwar Pujara as he played really well," Azharuddin told ANI.
"Bowlers also did well. I think the team worked in good tandem and the bowlers did their job. I think it is a very good victory. So many people have gone before but couldn't do well but this team did it. They deserve all the congratulations and all the kudos," he added.
President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate team India and its captain, Virat Kohli.
"Congratulations to @imVkohli and his team for reaching one of Indian cricket's final frontiers and winning a test series in Australia for the first time. Gritty batting, marvellous fast bowling and a fine team effort has done us proud. Let's make a habit of it! #PresidentKovind," the President wrote.
"A historic cricketing accomplishment in Australia! Congratulations to the Indian Cricket Team for the hard-fought and richly deserved series victory. The series witnessed some memorable performances and solid teamwork. Best wishes for the various games ahead," the Prime Minister tweeted.
Meanwhile, when asked about the speculated news on Congress party not going to continue its alliance with TDP, Azharuddin said: "Well I don't know. I don't take that decision. It is taken from high command so I really cannot comment on that." (ANI)
