Buttler's ton helps England lock series against Aussies

Sydney [Australia], Jan 21 (ANI): Jos Buttler's stunning century helped England secure a narrow 16-run victory over Australia in the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia here at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) on Sunday.

With this win, England have also locked the five-match series 3-0.

After being asked to bat first, England set a target of 303 for the loss of six wickets.

Butler (100*) along with Chris Woakes (53*) partnered for 113 runs, setting up a testing target for the hosts.

Jonny Bairstow made 39, before he was clean bowled by Adam Zampa.

Skipper Joe Root, playing his 100th ODI match, was bowled out by Josh Hazlewood on 27.

Chasing the target, Australia lost two early wickets in the form of David Warner and Cameron White in the first ten overs.

Opener Aaron Finch contributed 62 runs for the side.

Mitchell Marsh scored 55, Marcus Stoinis scored 56 and skipper Steven Smith scored 45.

Last man Tim Paine scored 31 as Australia tasted the defeat.

Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, Liam Plunkett and Adil Rashid chipped in with two wickets apiece.(ANI)
