BCCI will now need CoA's approval before awarding contracts

New Delhi [India], March 15 (ANI): The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) on Thursday directed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to seek approval from the committee for contracts above Rs 25 lakhs.

The two-member CoA, comprising of Vinod Rai and Diana Edulji, directed the cricket governing body that all contracts above Rs 25 lakhs shall be put before the committee for approval, where the acting secretary shall continue to sign all contracts and appointment letters on behalf of the BCCI.

"However, if a contract approved by the CoA is not signed by acting secretary within reasonable time, not exceeding five working days, the CoA may direct the BCCI CEO to sign it," the CoA said.

As per the new directions, the BCCI office bearers will also have to seek approval of the apex court-appointed committee for their travel expenses.

The CoA once again reminded the BCCI that the administrators shall supervise the management of the cricket governing body of India.

"Therefore in the event there is any difficulty in implementation or execution of any other directions that have been or may be issued by CoA, CEO shall forthwith bring the same to knowledge of CoA to issue such further directions for implementation as it may consider necessary," the CoA said in a statement.

Earlier, in its seventh status report to the apex court, the CoA cited that the term of office of the present office-bearers expired on March 1, 2018, according to the BCCI's existing Constitution.

The CoA further pointed out that Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Rajeev Shukla has also completed his tenure. (ANI)
