New Delhi [India], Mar 11 (ANI): The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Monday clarified that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had sought permission from it to wear camouflage caps as a mark of respect to the security personnel who lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack.
The Indian team had sported the caps during the third one-day international (ODI) against Australia in Ranchi on March 8.
“The BCCI sought permission from the ICC to wear the caps as part of a fundraising drive and in memory of fallen soldiers who have died, which was granted," an ICC spokesperson told ANI.
The gesture was also aimed at encouraging fellow countrymen to donate to the National Defence Fund set up to take care of the education of dependents of the slain CRPF jawans.
"We have decided to donate our match fees to the National Defence Fund," Indian captain Virat Kohli had said ahead of the third match.
India and Australia, both at 2-2, will play the decider and fifth match of the series at the Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi on March 13. (ANI)
