Melbourne [Australia], June 16 (ANI): Banned Australian cricketer David Warner, who is currently serving a one-year suspension for his role in ball-tampering scandal, is all set to make his first appearance in the Caribbean Premier League as he has signed a deal with St Lucia for the upcoming edition of the tournament.
The left-handed batsmen will replace Australia's D'Arcy Short, who is unavailable for the tournament as he will be travelling with the Australia A squad for their tour to India in August and September.
Confirming the news, St. Lucia Stars General Manager, Mohammad Khan, hoped that the New South Wales cricketer would be valuable for the team.
"We are excited to bring David to the St Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era and a winning player. He is going to add a lot of value on the field and in the dressing room as we pursue our first title," ESPNcricinfo quoted Warner, as saying.
The destructive opener, who was denied the permission to appear in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal, has started his way back into competitive cricket. He has confirmed his participation in other cricket leagues such as Global T20 league Canada and Northern Territory strike league in Darwin.
The 2018 edition of the CPL is slated to be held from August 8 and will run till September 16. (ANI)
