Azhar Ali becomes 8th Pakistan cricketer to score 5, 000 Test runs

Abu Dhabi [UAE], Sept. 30 (ANI): Pakistan middle-order batsman Azhar Ali completed 5,000 runs in Test cricket on Day Three of the ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on Saturday.

Ali, who is unbeaten on 74, became the eighth Pakistan batsman to reach the milestone in his 61st Test.

The 32-year-old is the fourth fastest to achieve this landmark from his country. Ali has joined an elite list of former Pakistan cricketers, who went down as one of the greats of the game.

Having made his Test debut against Australia at Lord's in Pakistan's neutral venue series in England in 2010, Ali has been a significant part of the national team, primarily due to his consistent performance with the bat.

The right-handed batsman became the first century maker in a day-night Test during his epic triple hundred against the West Indies in Dubai last year.

Veteran batsman Younis Khan is the leading Test run-getter for Pakistan, with 10, 099 runs in 118 Tests, followed by Javed Miandad (8,832 runs), Inzamam-ul-Haq (8,829 runs) and Mohammad Yousuf (7,530 runs). (ANI)
