Australia inch closer to win first Ashes Test

Brisbane [Australia], Nov 26 (ANI): As David Warner and Cameron Bancroft crossed a 100 run partnership, here on Day 4 at the 'Gabbatoir'; the Australian team seized complete control of the first Ashes Test.

Chasing 170 in the fourth innings, after their fast bowling ripped through England in the morning session; the Australian openers looked quite at ease when they came in to bat.

Warner (60*) and his debutant opening partner Bancroft (51*) put Australia on course to wrap up their long-accustomed victory in Brisbane.

Batting in the second innings, England clearly had their chance to post a target in excess of 200, but missed out on several occasions.

They opened the day with Jonny Bairstow and Moeen Ali and made 86 runs, but lost the wickets of Mark Stoneman (27), Dawid Malan (4) and Skipper Joe Root in quick succession.

Skipper Joe Root was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood (3-46), one ball after he reached a fifty, while Ali walked off with 40 as he was stumped by Nathan Lyon.

C R Woakes returned to the pavilion for cheap 17, while Bairstow was batting well until arrival of Mitchell Starc's bouncer which dismissed him for 42.

On Day 5, Australia require another 56 runs with 10 wickets remaining. (ANI)
