Dubai [UAE], Mar 6 (ANI): Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq continued to show that age is no barrier as he rescued Peshawar Zalmi from 20 for five to secure a last-over win over Lahore Qalandars with his unbeaten 55-ball 59 in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The 44-year-old, who retired from international cricket in mid-2017, came out to the crease when his team was struggling at eight for two in chase of 125. He saw three more batsmen departing in quick succession before he finally received support in captain Darren Sammy.
The duo stitched together a 100-run partnership to put Peshawar Zalmi within sight of victory. However, Sammy was dismissed by Ryan ten Doeschate in the final over and the team needed five off four balls to seal the deal.
Wahab Riaz did well to bring Misbah on the strike and the former Pakistan captain ran for a couple before running one more after an overthrow. Riaz then completed the chase with a single and won the match by four wickets and one ball to spare on Tuesday.
Misbah said that he had put in a lot of effort to ensure he could play. “It's all about your passion and love for the game, and how long you've that hunger and how long you want that challenge,” ICC quoted Misbah, as saying.
“The competition, what's going on in the middle, is what keeps you hungry. My passion for the game is there. I want to play, I want to enjoy, I want to perform. I know there's a price for that. If you want to do that in the middle, you've to work hard. That's what I was doing in the previous three or four months, playing first-class cricket, and training, getting ready for this.” (ANI)
