Adelaide Test: Starc's fi-fer guides Aussies to 120-run win over England

Adelaide [Australia], December 6 (ANI): Mitchell Starc scalped a five-wicket haul as Australia thrashed England by 120 runs in the second Ashes Test to lead the five-match series by 2-0 here at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday.

Fans were expecting an unthinkable victory in Adelaide when England skipper Joe Root ended the Day four's play at an unbeaten 67 but hope sprung when the Josh Hazlewood dismissed the skipper who did not add a run to his overnight score.

The game for England resumed at 178 with six wickets in hand but the wickets collapsed like a house of cards and Australia registered their second consecutive victory in just two hours of the game to dominate the Ashes.

Hazlewood, who claimed Root, also grabbed his partner Chris Woakes for five, which was again his overnight score.

It was only Jonny Bairstow who contributed a significant 36 runs on the last day but the lower order of England could not stand for long against Starc who clinched five wickets for Australia, including the crucial wickets of Mark Stoneman and James Vince.

Nathan Lyon claimed two wickets whereas Pat Cummins took one for the side.

For England, James Anderson took five-wicket but the contribution went in vain as the batting line-up failed to perform on the concluding day. (ANI)
