Williams' Felipe Massa to retire from F1 at end of season
London [England], Sep.1 (ANI):Williams driver Felipe Massa has announced that he will bid adieu to Formula One at the end of the ongoing season. While speaking ahead of this week's Italian Grand Prix, Massa insisted that he had managed to achieve many of his F1 dreams and, therefore, he was extremely proud of his career, Sport24 reported. The 35-year-old, who began his F1 career in 2002 with Sauber, moved to Williams in 2014 after spending eight seasons with Ferrari, the Guardian reported. Describing the Brazilian driver as a `true gentleman`, deputy team principal Claire Williams admitted that they were feeling quite emotional with the announcement while thanking Massa for finishing his career with Williams. Massa, who won 11 times in a career which will yield 250 starts, missed out on the championship title to Lewis Hamilton by just one point in 2008 following his second-place finish at the final race of the season in his native Brazil. In 2009, Massa survived a horrific accident during qualifying round of the Hungarian Grand Prix, where he was struck on the crash helmet by a spring which came off Rubens Barrichello's car. (ANI)
