New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Congress MP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Wednesday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address oth houses and the nation on crucial issues, including the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam and the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being carried out by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Speaking to ANI, Gogoi asked the Central government to provide the dates of discussions on the important issues.
"Election Commission is doing the work of (vote-bandi) banning votes in Bihar. It can only be done with the consent of PM Modi and Union HM Amit Shah. We want PM Modi to participate in the discussions of SIR, and he should inform us when the discussions on Operation Sindoor and SIR will take place," Gogoi said.
Meanwhile, both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned until 2 pm shortly after resuming proceedings, due to continued protests by opposition members over several issues, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Soon after proceedings resumed, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned within a minute after opposition members created a ruckus, demanding a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
However, the Lok Sabha held its proceedings for a few minutes amid continued uproar and sloganeering from the opposition MPs.
During this time, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the 'National Sports Governance Bill, 2025' in Lok Sabha.
Earlier in the day, both Houses had been adjourned shortly after convening due to similar disruptions.
Several opposition leaders had moved adjournment motion notices to discuss various issues of public importance.
The opposition leaders have been demanding that the Prime Minister address both houses and the nation on crucial issues, including the ghastly Pahalgam terror attack and the ongoing SIR exercise being carried out by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
The opposition has also demanded that PM Modi respond to the repeated claims made by US President Donald Trump of initiating "ceasefire" between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. (ANI)
