New Delhi [India], July 23 (ANI): Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Wednesday took a swipe at the opposition, referring to the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) as a "hullad bloc" for allegedly disrupting parliamentary proceedings and avoiding debate on key issues.
Speaking to ANI, Chouhan accused the opposition of hypocrisy. "INDIA bloc has become 'hullad' bloc...Outside the Parliament, they say, there should be discussion, but they are running away from debate in the House. Yesterday, with folded hands, I had appealed to the Opposition to let the discussion take place, but they continued to create a ruckus. There were many questions listed in the House regarding farmers' welfare and related schemes. I appeal to the farmers and the public to witness this double standard of the INDIA bloc," he said.
Earlier in the day, ahead of the commencement of the third day of the Monsoon Session, INDIA bloc MPs staged a protest for the second consecutive day at Parliament's Makar Dwar, opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls being undertaken by the Election Commission in poll-bound Bihar.
The opposition leaders demanded a halt to the revision exercise, alleging it was stripping voting rights from eligible citizens.
Prominent leaders, including Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, Deputy LoP Gaurav Gogoi, Congress MPs Priyanka Gandhi and Manickam Tagore, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, were among those present during the protest.
The leaders held placards and raised slogans such as "Save our Democracy" and "Save our Constitution," calling for an immediate stop to the SIR process.
Meanwhile, both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till 2 pm, soon after they resumed their proceedings on Wednesday amid continued protests by opposition members over several issues, including the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
Soon after proceedings resumed, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned within a minute after opposition members created a ruckus, demanding a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.
However, the Lok Sabha held its proceedings for a few minutes amid continued uproar and sloganeering from the opposition MPs.
During this time, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the 'National Sports Governance Bill, 2025' in Lok Sabha.
Earlier in the day, both Houses had been adjourned shortly after convening due to similar disruptions. (ANI)
