"Total time lost was 30 hours and 6 minutes till Wednesday": Dy Chairman Harivansh

Dy Chairman Harivnsh announced in Rajya Sabha that in this Monsoon session, we had the opportunity to raise 120 questions, 120 zero hour submissions and 120 special mentions, whereas only 11 questions, 3 zero hour submissions and 17 special mentions could be done.

New Delhi [India], July 31 (ANI): Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh on Thursday announced from the Chair that in this Monsoon Session, the total time lost was 30 hours and 6 minutes till 30 July. This time was Members' time and not government business time.
Dy Chairman Harivnsh said, "In Rajya Sabha, in this Monsoon session, we had the opportunity to raise 120 questions, 120 zero hour submissions and 120 special mentions, whereas only 11 questions, 3 zero hour submissions and 17 special mentions could be done".
The Deputy Chairman further stated that the mandate given by the people has not been fulfilled, adding, "It is high time for us to introspect in the context of the Resolution unanimously adopted by the Rajya Sabha on 1st September 1997, on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee of Independence, which inter alia stated.
"That the prestige of the Parliament be preserved and enhanced, also by conscious and dignified conformity to the entire regime of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Houses and directions of the Presiding Officers relating to orderly conduct of business, more especially by maintaining the inviolability of the Question Hour, refraining from transgressing into the official areas of the House, or from any shouting of slogans" he added.
Meanwhile, the proceedings in the Upper House were adjourned till 12 noon amid protests by the Opposition.
Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha adjourned the House amidst protest by the Opposition, demanding a Suspension of Business under Rule 267, which was dismissed by the chair. (ANI)
