New Delhi [India], July 24 (ANI): A day after JD(U) MP Giridhari Yadav broke ranks to voice his opinion against the Special Intensive Revision of Voter rolls in Bihar, the JDU has been critical of him. JD(U) MP Kaushalendra Kumar remarked that he is protesting because his name is Giridhari Yadav.
He said, "He is protesting because his name is Giridhari Yadav."
This comes after JDU MP Giridhari Yadav expressed strong reservations about the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in Bihar. Speaking in Delhi, Yadav criticised the EC's handling of the process, stating that it lacks practical knowledge of Bihar's history and geography.
Speaking to ANI, Yadav pointed out that the one-month deadline for submitting documents is impractical, sharing his personal experience of taking 10 days to collect the required documents.
He highlighted the difficulties faced by migrant voters, including his own son, who resides in the United States, in complying with the signature requirements within the given timeframe.
Yadav alleged that the SIR process has been imposed without considering the ground realities, suggesting that at least six months' time should have been given for the exercise.
"Election Commission has no practical knowledge. It neither knows the history nor the geography of Bihar. It took me 10 days to collect all the documents. My son stays in America. How will he do the signatures in just a month? This (SIR) has been imposed on us forcefully. At least 6 months' time should have been given for this... I am giving my personal opinion. It doesn't matter what the party is saying... This is the truth. If I can't say the truth, why have I become an MP?" he said.
Meanwhile, the proceedings in the Lower House of the Parliament were adjourned on Thursday amid sloganeering by the Opposition.
The Lower House began at 11 am on Thursday. However, amid ruckus by the Opposition, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 2 pm. (ANI)
