Vadodara NGOs step in to help birds injured in kite festival
Vadodara, (Gujarat), [India], Jan. 17 (ANI): Non Government Organisations (NGO) in Vadodara, Gujarat, have stepped up efforts to attend to birds injured during the recently held kite festival. The birds were taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment. Oxygen masks had to be placed on some of the injured birds to save them. Kite strings are made of sharp glass powder and when birds fly into them and get entangled, they get deep cuts on their wings, nerve injuries, fractures, dislocations and in even death. Urbanised birds such as pariah kites, rose-ringed parakeets, pigeons and barn owls are commonly injured during the festival. In all, 300 birds were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries. (ANI)
