Srinagar soon to get its first Dahlia garden
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], May 16 (ANI): Much to the delight of the tourists in the Kashmir valley, the state's department of floriculture is now constructing its first Dahlia garden in Srinagar. The tourists visiting Kashmir are always on the lookout for natural ambiences and the gardens here have always been an attraction point for them. Now the upcoming Dahlia garden will soon be their new site for admiration. "Kashmir is known as 'paradise on earth'. This garden will add to its charm," a local resident Mushtaq Ahmad told ANI. Fayaz Ahmad another local added that the garden will not just be an attraction point for tourists but will become a hub for locals as well. The garden which is set to be completed within a week spreads over 25 kanals of land and has used 13 different varieties of Dahlias overall. The authorities have brought these high quality flowers from outside the state hoping that this garden will become the major attraction for tourists this year. "The main purpose of coming up with this garden is that the flowering period of Tulip is just one month while it's five to six months for Dahlias. Thus this garden once completed will attract tourists for larger duration," said Assistant Floriculture Officer Mubashir Ahmad. The garden is situated near tourist reception centre where tourists come on daily basis to enquire about new tourist destinations and important information about the state, making the garden easy to be sighted. In a situation where there is unprecedented unemployment in the state, coming up of this garden has also helped the locals by providing them with jobs. "We really appreciate the floriculture department for constructing the Dahlia garden. This will be an attraction point for the tourists as well as provide employment opportunities to the locals," said Abdul Rasheed, a worker of the garden. Presently, a number of workers and gardeners are on job that are sowing thousands of flowers with proper techniques aimed to complete the Dahlia garden propjet at proper time. For the last few years, the floriculture department is always engaged in doing different activities and working hard to maintain the beauty of gardens in the valley and simultaneously also enhancing the revenue possibilities in the state.
