Radio Kashmir, famous during 2014 floods, to get renovated

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Oct. 15 (ANI): Radio Kashmir, which played a significant part during the 2014 floods, is all set to get a new look with help from the central government to maintain the glory of its heritage broadcasting station in the valley.

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], Oct. 15 (ANI): Radio Kashmir, which played a significant part during the 2014 floods, is all set to get a new look with help from the central government to maintain the glory of its heritage broadcasting station in the valley. Around Rs.10 crores is being spent to digitalise the broadcasting studio, including renovating of administrative section, library and auditorium of radio station which suffered huge damage during the floods. Special emphasis is being given to modernise the station armed with modern equipments making it more appealing and beautiful to the people. During the September floods, Radio Kashmir was the only medium of communication between flood affected victims after flood wiped the Doordarshan Kendra in Srinagar. Radio Kashmir Station survived through the disaster much more than any other radio or Internet service. Former chief minister Omar Abdullah also took the help of the radio station to reach the affected people when all other forms of communication were badly hit. It is prominent for starting of Short Message Service where it gave the affected people to avail rescue services. (ANI)
