Final leg of India-Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Car Rally reaches Guwahati

Guwahati (Assam) [India], Nov. 21 (ANI): The India-Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Car Rally which aims to improve road connectivity in South East Asia reached Guwahati yesterday. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal welcomed the participants of the rally. This rally is being held to sensitise stakeholders of India, Myanmar and Thailand about the benefits of the Motor Vehicle Agreement. The rally, which also aims to promote harmony and brotherhood between the three nations, will conclude on December 2 in Bangkok. The rally, which was flagged off from India Gate in New Delhi, will cover a distance of 5,722 kilometers along the The India-Myanmar-Thailand (IMT) Trilateral Highway with about 80 participants from all the three countries, in 20 Indian made vehicles on a journey from Delhi to Bangkok over 19 days. Apart from Guwahati, the ceremonial flag off will also be held in Shillong, Kohima and Imphal and Began, Yangon in Myanmar and Bangkok in Thailand. The rally would finally conclude at Bangkok on December 2, which would further cement the cultural and economic ties among the three nations and would aim to underscore the potential benefits of connectivity and integration in the region, keeping with India's focus on its close neighborhood. A trial run of passenger vehicles on the IMT Trilateral Highway up to Naypitaw in Myanmar was carried out from November 9 to November14 in which Indian vehicles travelled to Myanmar on Imphal -Mandalay -Bagan- Naypitaw route and back and Myanmar vehicles joined the Indian vehicles on the return journey from Naypitaw to Imphal and returning to Myanmar.
