Nagpur (Maharashtra) [India], Jan 26 (ANI): Hitting out at those raising questions over conferring Bharat Ratna award on former President Pranab Mukherjee, RSS ideologue MG Vaidya said on Saturday that Pranab deserved the highest civilian award for his ability to become the President of India and his generous nature.
“Today, some people are not seeing the BJP government in a good way. Amongst them is Aam Aadmi Party, Chandrababu Naidu, Mamata Banerjee. This is not right to say that Pranab da got Bharat Ratna just because he came to an RSS event,” Vaidya said.
He further said: "Many people came to RSS programme but they did not get it. His ability to become President and he is so generous that he accepted the invitation and went to the programme organised by the ideology he did not like. I did not understand that is there any mistake in giving Bharat Ratna to him, who is so generous."
The Central government on Friday announced Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour of the country, for former President Pranab Mukherjee, late singer Bhupen Hazarika and late social activist Nanaji Deshmukh.
On the formation of a new five-bench of Supreme Court on Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case, Vaidya said, “I have a lot of expectations but can’t say anything what will happen. The previous judge had taken a lawyer’s letter in the matter and he did not find it appropriate to be on this bench. It is a good thing. Now, a new bench is there. There are only three days left. Let’s see what they will decide whether a regular hearing or give a new date.”
The new five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi will start hearing the Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case from January 29.
The bench includes two new names, Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Abdul Nazeer, who have been brought in to replace Justice UU Lalit and Justice NV Ramana. The bench also includes Justice SA Bobde and Justice DY Chandrachud. (ANI)
