YSRCP's Sheelam Nadiya demands apology from TDP MLA Bhanu Prakash for "derogatory remarks" against Roja Selvamani

"It is extremely unfortunate that Gali Bhanu Prakash, the current MLA of Nagari, has made such derogatory comments against former minister and ex-MLA Roja. He claimed that Roja would do anything for Rs 2,000 and described her more as a vamp than a heroine. Let me remind him -- it was the same Roja whom your father lost to twice in elections. What should we call you then? More of a broker than a joker?" Nadiya told ANI.

Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 19 (ANI): Demanding an apology, Yuvajana Sramika Rythu (YSR) Congress Party leader Sheelam Nadiya on Saturday lashed out at Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Gali Bhanu Prakash for making "derogatory comments" against Former Andhra Pradesh Minister Roja Selvamani, and said that such remarks reflect a lack of basic decency.
Intensifying her attack against the ruling TDP MLA, she said that Prakash's comments were not just disgraceful, but also reflect a lack of basic decency.
"We can speak too. We have a voice. But we are guided by values and culture. Unfortunately, it seems like you have neither shame nor culture. The comments you've made are not just disgraceful but reflect a lack of basic decency. Before you speak about a woman, don't you remember that there are women in your own family too?" Nadiya said.
Highlighting the contributions of women in leadership roles, the YSRCP leader said that a woman holds the highest constitutional post in India.
"From the Indian freedom struggle to the Telangana movement, women have played crucial leadership roles. Let me also remind you that the highest constitutional post in India -- the President -- has been held by a woman," Nadiya stated.
She further said that the comments made by the TDP MLA were reflective of a "perverse mindset". Flagging the issue of crime against women in Telangana, Nadiya said that incidents of rapes were on the rise and the coalition government has turned a blind eye to the same.
"To say that a woman would do anything for money is not only a cheap thought but reflects your perverse mindset. While such misogynistic views are being expressed, the state is already unsafe for women. Crimes against women and even children -- including rapes -- are on the rise. And this coalition government has turned a blind eye to it," she added.
The YSRCP leader demanded that Prakash issue an apology to former minister Roja Selvamani and urged Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan to take action against him.
"We demand that Bhanu Prakash issue an unconditional public apology to Roja immediately. Otherwise, the women of this state will be forced to take to the streets in protest. We urge Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Home Minister Anitha to respond immediately and take strict action against Bhanu Prakash. We demand a public apology without delay," Nadiya said.
Earlier, Selvamani demanded legal action against TDP MLA Gali Bhanu Prakash for allegedly subjecting her to "filthy and abusive language".
"There is no dignity left for women in Andhra Pradesh today. I was subjected to filthy and abusive language by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MLA Gali Bhanu Prakash simply for raising my voice. This is not just an insult to me. It is an attack on every woman who dares to question those in power," Selvamani posted on X.
She criticised the Andhra Pradesh police for their inaction against the ruling party's MLA. (ANI)
