"Your government has celebrated Constitution Murder Day every day": Kharge slams PM Modi

"In the last 10 years, your government has celebrated "Constitution Murder Day" every day. You have snatched away the self-respect of every poor and deprived section of the country every moment," Kharge said in a post on 'X' on Friday.

New Delhi [India], July 12 (ANI): In reaction to the central government announcing that it would celebrate June 25 annually as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' in remembrance of the Emergency declared by the then Indira Gandhi government in 1975, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge hit back saying that the Narendra Modi government has celebrated "Constitution Murder Day" every day during the last 10 years.
"In the last 10 years, your government has celebrated "Constitution Murder Day" every day. You have snatched away the self-respect of every poor and deprived section of the country every moment," Kharge said in a post on 'X' on Friday.
Slamming the BJP, the Congress president questioned, "...when a BJP leader urinates on tribals in Madhya Pradesh, or when the police forcibly cremate the Dalit daughter of Hathras in UP... then what is that if not murder of the Constitution?"
Speaking about atrocities against Dalits, houses of minorities being demolished, the Congress president said, "When every 15 minutes a major crime against Dalits takes place and every day 6 Dalit women are raped... then what is it if not the murder of the Constitution? When minorities are subjected to illegal bulldozer justice, in which 1.5 lakh houses are demolished in just 2 years and 7.38 lakh people are rendered homeless... then what is that if not murder of the Constitution?"
Kharge also took on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting conflict-ridden Manipur ever since violence broke out in the state months ago.
"When Manipur is in the grip of violence for the last 13 months and you do not even want to set foot there... then what is it if not murder of the Constitution?" he said.
The Congress president also pointed out that the BJP-RSS-Jansangh had "never accepted the Constitution" and had once state that there is nothing "India" in it.
"Modi ji, you do not like talking about the Constitution. BJP-RSS-Jansangh never accepted the Constitution. Is it not true that RSS mouthpiece Organiser had written in its editorial in its November 30, 1949 issue that - "The worst thing about this new Constitution of India is that there is nothing Indian in it" and here did RSS not clearly stand against the main architect of the Indian Constitution i.e. Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar ji and in support of Manusmriti?" Kharge said.
Hitting out at the Congress over the sudden demonetization exercise which led to several people queuing up before banks, Kharge said, "When you arbitrarily implemented demonetization, crushed an institution like RBI, killed 120 people by making them stand in queues in banks, and mocked the common people by clapping and saying "there's a wedding at home, but no money"... then what is that if not murder of the Constitution?"
On hastily imposing a countrywide lockdown ahead of the pandemic leading to hundreds of people walking on streets, the Congress president said, "When you did not provide buses and trains to lakhs of workers during the Covid pandemic and forced them to walk hundreds of kilometres, without caring about the blisters on their feet, because you felt that a lockdown had to be imposed without any preparation... then what is that if not a murder of the Constitution?"
Speaking about the government's interference in judicial processes, Kharge said, "When 5 sitting judges of the Supreme Court held a public press conference and questioned your government's interference in the court...then what else is that if not murder of the Constitution?"
Kharge gave examples of several instances pointing out that the ruling BJP had allegedly acted in a high-handed manner and thwarted constitutional norms.
The Congress chief claimed that the BJP-RSS combine intends to do away with the Constitution and implement the law of the Manusmriti so that the rights of Dalits, tribals and backward classes can be curtailed.
"Mr. Modi, BJP-RSS wants to abolish the Constitution and implement Manusmriti. So that the rights of Dalits, tribals and backward classes can be attacked! That is why they are insulting Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar by adding the word "murder" to the sacred word "Constitution"," Kharge claimed. (ANI)
