"You are issuing threats," Sambit Patra hits out at Mamata Banerjee over SIR comments

New Delhi [India], October 10 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party National Spokesperson and MP Sambit Patra accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of allegedly threatening riots following the SIR exercise on Friday.
In a video posted on X, Patra alleged that the Chief Minister Banerjee stated that if SIR is conducted in the eastern state, riots will break out in Bengal and there will be horrifying consequences.
"....Mamata Banerjee said that if SIR is done, riots will break out in Bengal and there will be horrifying consequences...The rioting will be done by you, because it is your government which is in power there, and it is your Police there. Mamata Banerjee you are issuing threats..," said Patra.
The BJP MP alleged that the West Bengal Chief Minister warned she would not hesitate to shed blood for Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.
"For Mamata Banerjee, she would not shy away even if she has to riot and shed blood in Bengal for Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. This is the warning she gave in Bengal yesterday..." claimed Patra.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party leaders strongly criticised West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over her recent opposition to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and comparison of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Mir Zafar. BJP state President Samik Bhattacharya accused Mamata Banerjee of wanting to "incite riots and provoke conflict between the Hindu and Muslims communities" in West Bengal.
Speaking with ANI, Samik Bhattacharya said, "CM wants to incite riots in West Bengal and provoke conflicts between Hindus and Muslims. The minority community in the state has also realised that 90% of the political killings over the past three years involve people from the minority community."
Another BJP leader, Rahul Sinha, also slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), alleging that the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is winning elections by "sheltering infiltrators from Bangladesh".
"Let the SIR happen first, and then the NRC will happen. CM, rest assured, the SIR is not being done to delete the names of genuine voters. You gave shelter to Muslim infiltrators from Bangladesh and added the names of Rohingya Muslims to the voter list, people who have died have been added in voter list. This is the basis for your victory, and when the Election Commission interfered with this basis, you started shouting", Sinha told ANI.
Earlier, Mamata Banerjee opposed the EC's decision to conduct a nationwide SIR of electoral rolls, warning the BJP to "not play with fire."
"I warned the BJP, don't play with fire. Be prepared for public outrage. People of Bengal never believe you. I heard that the Union Home Minister said in a party meeting that we will drop many names; who is he to drop them? Today, his government is there, but tomorrow it will not be there," the Chief Minister said. (ANI)
