Tirunelveli (Tamil Nadu) [India], August 22 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah accused Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin of doing "black deeds" and termed the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government as the "most corrupt" in response to the oppostion protests over the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill brought by the Centre in Parliament.
Addressing the 'Booth Karyakarta Sammelan' in Tirunelveli, Shah said, "Modi ji has presented the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha. The entire opposition started protesting. What is the Constitution Bill? If any CM or Prime Minister goes to jail, they will have to resign from their post. The opposition is asking, What is the need for this bill? Senior DMK ministers K Ponmudy and Senthil Balaji were in jail for eight months. They did not resign. Tell me, can you run the government while being in jail? These DMK people call the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill a black bill. Stalin Babu, you have no right to call this bill a black bill because you are a Chief Minister who does black deeds."
He also exuded confidence that the NDA allies will form the government in the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
"In the coming days, a government of the BJP, AIADMK and NDA allies is going to be formed in Tamil Nadu. The DMK government is the most corrupt government in the country. They have done many scams. In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, our NDA alliance got 18 per cent of the votes. Our ally AIADMK got 21 per cent votes. If we add all of them, then about 39 per cent of the votes are of NDA," Amit Shah said.
Amit Shah also highlighted the contribution of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards "glorifying" the Tamil culture and referred to CP Radhakrishnan, NDA pick up for Vice Presidential election scheduled for September 9, as "Tamil Nadu's son".
"I have come to tell the people of the state that after assuming the post of Vice President, Tamil Nadu's son CP Radhakrishnan is going to become the Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Earlier, the NDA had also given this honour to APJ Abdul Kalam ji by making him the President of India. Narendra Modi ji has always worked to glorify Tamil Nadu, Tamil language and Tamil culture," he said.
The Election Commission has announced that polling for the Vice Presidential election will take place on September 9, with counting of votes scheduled for the same day.
The Vice Presidential post fell vacant after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament on July 21, citing health reasons. (ANI)
