Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Mar 25 (ANI): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday took a dig on his opponents while citing a news report in connection with a Supreme Court hearing on the disproportionate assets case against Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav.
Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, Adityanath said, “The misdeeds of corrupts are coming out in open. They have robbed the public. The Supreme Court will punish these 'corrupt families' for their misdeeds, beware of them. In order to avoid the jail term, they will divide you in the name of caste and creed. All thieves have gathered in fear of the watchman, but how long will they survive?"
The tweet by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister came on a day when the court was hearing a plea regarding the disproportionate assets case.
During the day's hearing, the Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the CBI on a plea seeking a direction to the agency to provide a status report in a case of disproportionate assets against Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav.
A division bench presided by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and also comprising Justice Deepak Gupta directed CBI to file a reply within two weeks.
The plea is filed by advocate Vishwanath Chaturvedi.
Chaturvedi’s petition has sought a direction to CBI to place before the top court or jurisdictional magistrate the status report of the investigation carried out in connection with the case.
The petition has said that the agency has "utterly failed" to intimate either the apex court or report to the jurisdictional magistrate in respect of the probe done and its status.
Mulayam had allegedly amassed disproportionate assets worth over Rs 100 crore during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh between 1999 and 2005.
CBI has taken a long time to complete the preliminary inquiry in the matter which has been probed since 2007, the plea filed in February has said. (ANI)
