"Would like to commit to construct 100 plus houses": Rahul Gandhi after visiting Mundakkai and Punchiri Mattam village

Wayanad (Kerala) [India], August 2 (ANI): Congress MP and Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress family would like to commit to construct 100 plus houses in Kerala's Wayanad which witnessed large-scale devastation due to landslides.
Rahul Gandhi along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Friday visited Mundakkai and Punchiri Mattam village affected by landslide in Wayanad district of Kerala.
The LoP in the Lok Sabha and Priyanka Gandhi along with other party leaders were briefed by the district administration, and forest officers in Chooralmala, Meppadi, of Kerala's Wayanad.
Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress would like to commit to building 100 plus houses in the area for the displaced people.
"I have been here since yesterday. This is a terrible tragedy. Today we had a meeting with the administration and panchayat. They briefed us on the number of casualties they expect, the number of houses that had been damaged and their strategy. We said that we are here to help. Congress family would like to commit to build 100 plus houses here. Kerala has not seen such a tragedy. I will raise it in Delhi and with the CM here. This is a different level of tragedy and should be treated differently," Rahul Gandhi said.
Kerala Higher Education Department Minister R Bindu said on Friday that the National Service Scheme will volunteer construction of houses for 150 families who lost their homes due to the recent landslides in Wayanad.
Two massive landslides hit Wayanad's Chooralmala and Mundakkai on July 30 creating widespread devastation, and loss of lives and property in the region.
The Indian Navy on Friday continued its rescue and relief operations in the landslide-ravaged areas of Wayanad with an advanced light helicopter of INS Garuda undertaking reconnaissance of the affected areas.
The Indian Army, during the rescue operations in Wayanad, found four people alive in the rubble, including two men and two women today.
According to the officials, the rescued individuals were stranded in the Padavetti Kunnu in Wayanad. The operation was carried out with precision and care, ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.
Kerala Health Minister Veena George today confirmed 308 deaths in the multiple landslides that hit Wayanad on July 30. Minister George said that 195 bodies and 113 body parts have been recovered so far.
The Indian Air Force will fly C-130 aircraft from Hindon Air Base to Wayanad. It will carry specialised drone systems along with a team of experts to Wayanad for sub-soil evacuation monitoring. These drone systems will look for people stuck under the soil. (ANI)
