Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], August 21 (ANI): Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed the Supreme Court's observation on the rape and murder of trainee doctor in Kolkata and said that the top court's comments "exposed" the working of the West Bengal government.
During the Supreme Court proceedings, significant attention was directed towards the failings of the West Bengal government in addressing the situation at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Court's comments highlighted serious concerns about the handling and management of the case.
"The Supreme Court's comments have exposed the working of the West Bengal government. The inadequacies of a government hospital in West Bengal expose the failure of the state government. There should be no place for such kind of insensitivity that has been shown by the state government in handling the incident," Pradhan said while speaking to ANI on Tuesday.
He welcomed the Supreme Court's comments, expressing hope that the leaders of the West Bengal government will take responsibility and address the issues highlighted.
"I welcome the Supreme Court's comments and I hope that the leaders of the state government will abide by their responsibilities," he added.
SC questioned the West Bengal government for waiting three hours to register the FIR. The top court also pulled the WB government observing that the name and graphic images of the deceased have been widely circulated on social media without regard to her privacy or dignity. The top court then directed all social media platforms and electronic media to remove the name of the deceased in the RG Kar Hospital case, photographs, and video clips forthwith.
The top court also constituted a 10-member National Task Force to make recommendations on the prevention of violence and safe working conditions for medical professionals.
The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata on August 9. (ANI)
