New Delhi [India], October 9 (ANI): Congress leader Supriya Shrinate on Wednesday responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's allegations that Congress was 'dividing Hindu society for political gains', stating that the prime minister and his government are the ones dividing the country.
Speaking to ANI, Shrinate said, "Anyone can review the election speeches of PM Modi and any Congress leader or Rahul Gandhi and see that we speak of unity and love. Who has spread hatred, identified people by their clothes, raised issues about crematoriums, graveyards, 'Mujra' and 'Mangalsutra' in this country? It is the Prime Minister who has done this. The reality is that the Prime Minister shifts blame to others when it reflects on himself. The work of dividing this country has been done by PM Modi, his party, and his government. The Congress party is consistently working towards uniting the country and will continue to do so in the future."
This statement followed Prime Minister Modi's strong criticism of the Congress party while laying the foundation stone for various development projects in Maharashtra. He accused Congress of dividing Hindu society for political advantage.
Addressing the event virtually, PM Modi said, "The Congress policy is to pit one caste of Hindus against another. Congress believes that the more Hindus are divided, the more they benefit. Congress aims to keep Hindu society in turmoil for political gain. Wherever elections take place in India, Congress applies this formula."
The Prime Minister also urged voters in Maharashtra to unite and support the BJP-Mahayuti government.
"...Congress is practising the politics of hatred... Congress is intent on destroying the country. We all must remain vigilant and cautious. I am confident that the people of Maharashtra will respond firmly to these forces intent on damaging society. The people of Maharashtra must unite and vote for the BJP-Mahayuti government to ensure the state's and the country's development," PM Modi said.
Following a victory in the Haryana Assembly elections, PM Modi added, "Just yesterday, the election results for Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir were declared. Haryana has shown the nation's sentiment. It is historic to win a third consecutive term after completing two full terms."
The BJP is set to form its third successive government in Haryana, winning 48 of the 90 seats, according to results announced on Tuesday. The Congress secured 37 seats.
The results of the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections were also announced on Tuesday, October 8. The National Conference-Congress alliance won a clear majority in the Union Territory, securing 49 seats, with the National Conference winning 42 and Congress taking 6. (ANI)
