Women activists condemn Sharad Yadav's remark, demand severe punishment
New Delhi [India], Jan. 25 (ANI): The women activists on Wednesday demanded a severe punishment against the Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav for his 'anti-women' remark, adding that the party leaders should come out in open, condemning the former's statement. "He is good at making such anti-women statement in many occasion .It is very unfortunate because he is one of the senior leaders of our country. In spite of his repeated claim that they are for gender equality and gender justice, such comments shows in which side he stands. I hope the party and its leaders will realise the seriousness of the statement and advise Yadav that he should not make such remarks," women activist Annie Raja told ANI. Raja further said that the entire burden and responsibility of family's and community' pride is on the shoulder of women, adding, "This is a typical, patriarchal and feudalistic mentality of the male chauvinist." Women activist Ruby Mukherjee also condemned Yadav's statement and said: "How can he give such kind of statements. Women modesty is more than everything in this world. These kinds of people should be given severe punishment to set an example for other." Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women (NCW) earlier in the day issued a notice to the JD(U) leader for his derogatory statement on women. Raking up a controversy, Yadav had on Tuesday said that 'honour of vote is important than that of daughter's. "Honour of vote is bigger and important than honour of daughter. If daughter's honour is compromised, it only affects the village or community but if the vote's honour is compromised, it impacts the entire nation," Yadav said. The former National President of JD (U) was addressing a public gathering yesterday in Bihar's capital, when he raised brows of many by quoting this controversial remark. Yadav, who is also a member of Rajya Sabha, was speaking on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Bihar CM Karpoori Thakur.(ANI)
