Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 28 (ANI): After taking oath as a Member of the Legislative Council, Amit Gorkhe on Sunday said that he will work for the upliftment of the Hindu Matang community and scheduled castes.
After taking the oath, newly elected MLC Amit Gorkhe said, "BJP has given this representation to our society and I will work very hard to uplift them. Our caste community is known as "Hindu Matang". I will work for the upliftment of the scheduled castes. There are 59 scheduled castes in Maharashtra and we will work for the upliftment of all, whether it is education, water, or any facilities. This journey has just begun; we have to move ahead now."
Gorkhe further stated that only Devendra Fadnavis can give justice to both OBCs and Marathas in Maharashtra and the opposition is setting false narratives against him.
"When Devendra Fadnavis was the CM, he gave reservations to Marathas. The people know that OBCs are with the BJP. The opposition is spreading a narrative that they (Marathas) are against Devendra Fadnavis, but no one will buy this narrative. Only Devendra Fadnavis can bring quality to both the communities (OBCs and Marathas) and rest, our community (Matang) is with BJP, because all the work for our community has been done by the BJP," told Amit Gorkhe to ANI.
In the MLC elections held on July 13, the Mahayuti Alliance led by BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) secured nine out of 11 seats.
All five candidates fielded by BJP and two each by Sena and NCP won the election.
Overall, a total of 12 candidates were in the fray in a major contest between the Mahayuti and Maha Vikas Aghadi alliances. (ANI)
