Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Maharashtra) [India], November 14 (ANI): AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Thursday exuded confidence that his candidates will win both the seats in Aurangabad Central and East and they will demand Maratha reservation in the Assembly.
Speaking to ANI, Owaisi said that as per their strategy, they are contesting on 16 seats.
"Our candidates will win both the seats in Aurangabad. Drinking water is the biggest issue for the people here. Poor people do not have houses, there is problem of roads and drainage. There is also Maratha reservation. If both of them win, they will go to Maharashtra Assembly and demand Maratha reservation," Owaisi said.
Notably, former AIMIM MP Imtiaz Jaleel is in the electoral fray from Aurangabad East seat while Naseer Siddiqui is contesting from Aurangabad Central.
On Sunday, Asaduddin Owaisi campaigned for Jaleel in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (Earlier known as Aurangabad).
The party won Malegaon Central and Dhule seats in 2019 Assembly polls after contesting on 44 seats. This time, the AIMIM is contesting on 16 seats only.
Earlier, after Waris Pathan filed his nomination as All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) candidate from Bhiwandi West seat, the former said that they were interested in contesting the Assembly polls with the Maha Vikas Aghadi but after several efforts, the alliance did not contact them.
Speaking to the media on Maha Vikas Aghadi, Waris Pathan said, "We had told them, our Maharashtra President had also written a letter that we should come together to defeat the BJP but perhaps they were not interested. They did not contact us. We have a political party and contesting elections strengthens democracy."
Campaigning has intensified for the 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra with both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) making efforts to woo the electorate.
The polls are scheduled for November 20 and counting will be held on November 23. (ANI)
