Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], December 12 (ANI): After being selected as Rajasthan Assembly Speaker-designate, Vasudev Devnani expressed his gratitude to the central and state leaderships on Tuesday and said that he will work together to take forward the idea and tradition of Rajasthan.
"I express gratitude to the Central and State leaderships that expressed faith in me and gave me a new responsibility. I will shoulder this to the best of my abilities under the guidance of all senior leaders. Together, we will take forward the idea and tradition of Rajasthan," Devnani told ANI.
Devnani further stated to use his experiences to bring both opposition and ruling parties together on the issue of development of Rajasthan.
"I have experience as an MLA and Education Minister. I'll use all these experiences and will try to bring both opposition and ruling parties together," he added.
When asked about the party's decision to pick Bhajanlal Sharma, a first-time MLA from the Sanganer assembly constituency, as the chief minister of Rajasthan, Vasudev Devnani said that the BJP is a cadre-based party and supports the hard work of each member.
"It is a matter of pride for me that the party has chosen me as the Speaker-designate. BJP is a cadre-based party and supports the hard work of each member," he said.
Hitting out at the grand old party, Devnani said, "Perhaps Congress doesn't know that the BJP is a disciplined, cadre-based party, a party of workers. Everyone follows the decisions that are taken. In Congress, people become rebels. You saw how the former CM proposed the name and we supported it. I think such a democratic process is not seen in Congress. Theirs is a family-based party."
Vasudev Devnani is a five-time MLA from the Ajmer constituency. He has also held the post of Minister of State for Technical Education from 2004-08. Besides, he was a Minister of State with an independent charge for primary and secondary education from 2014-18.
Earlier today, the BJP selected Bhajan Lal Sharma, a first-time MLA from the Sanganer assembly constituency, as the chief minister of Rajasthan and Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari as the new Deputy Chief Ministers of Rajasthan.
Prem Chand Bairwa is the sitting BJP MLA from the Dudu constituency in Rajasthan. Bairwa won the seat in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly Election by defeating Congress candidate Babulal Nagar with a margin of 35,743 votes.
Diya Kumari won from the Vidyadhar Nagar constituency against Congress' Sitaram Agarwal with a margin of 71368 votes.
Bhajan Lal Sharma won the Sanganer assembly seat with an impressive margin, securing 145,162 votes against his Indian National Congress (INC) opponent, Pushpendra Bhardwaj, who polled 97,081 votes.
In Rajasthan, the vote count painted a starkly different picture from what some of the pollsters had predicted, with the BJP poised to form the government, winning 115 seats, and the Congress trailing at 69 seats.
Rajasthan went to the polls for 199 of the 200 assembly seats on November 25. The majority mark in the state is 100. (ANI)
