Patna (Bihar) [India], June 8 (ANI): Pappu Yadav, the independent candidate who emerged victorious from Bihar's Purnia Lok Sabha seat, said on Saturday that while his ideology resonates with that of the Congress, he will be open to seeking help from PM-designate Narendra Modi for the development of the constituency.
The victorious candidate told reporters that his ideology aligns closely with that of Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. "My ideology matches with Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. However, I will definitely take help from Narendra Modi for the development of Purnia," Yadav said.
While speaking with the reporters, Pappu Yadav said, "People supported me and showed their trust in me... Those who showed aggression, arrogance, and politics of hatred, have lost in the centre and Bihar also."
He added further, "The people of this country have always followed the path of Buddha, Mahavir, Ram, Shiva, and Krishna. You always talked about aggression, and the youth don't want it. They want to live..."
Notably, in the 18th Lok Sabha elections, the NDA partner Janata Dal-United (JDU) secured 12 seats out of 40 while BJP also won 12 seats in Bihar. On the other hand, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won four seats while Congress managed to clinch three seats.
Congress leader Pappu Yadav decided to go solo after he was denied a ticket from the Purnia Lok Sabha constituency.
Pappu had represented Purnia three times between 1991 and 2004.
As per an arrangement among the opposition parties within the INDIA bloc in the state, the RJD had put forward Bima Bharti, who had previously been associated with JD(U), as their candidate from Purnia, thus denying the Congress the opportunity to contest from that constituency.
In Purnia, Pappu Yadav secured victory by garnering 5,67,556 votes and defeated JDU's Santosh Kumar by a margin of 23,847 votes. Yadav also defeated RJD's Bima Bharti.
Meanwhile, as India gears up for Narendra Modi's third consecutive term oath-taking ceremony as Prime Minister on June 9, the Delhi Police has taken strict measures to ensure security during the event.
According to Delhi police officials, multi-layered security arrangements have been arranged for the event. Five companies of paramilitary forces will be deployed for the security of Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Apart from this, NSG commandos, drones, and snipers will also guard the Rashtrapati Bhavan for the mega event. (ANI)
