"Will fight this election with full strength": Congress' candidate from Porbandar in Gujarat

Speaking to ANI, Vasoya, in a jibe at the BJP, said that the ruling party at the Centre and the state 'does not have the support base'.

Rajkot (Gujarat) [India], March 12 (ANI): Lalitbhai Vasoya, the Congress candidate from Gujarat's Porbandar for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, on Tuesday said that he would fight the general polls with "full strength".
Speaking to ANI, Vasoya, in a jibe at the BJP, said that the ruling party at the Centre and the state 'does not have the support base'.
"BJP does not have the support base yet it has given the ticket to a central minister (from Porbandar). I am from Porbandar and I will fight this election with full strength," he said.
The Congress is in alliance with the AAP in Gujarat where it will contest from 24 seats while the AAP will contest in Bhavnagar and Bharuch constituencies.
Notably, the BJP has fielded Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya from Porbandar.
Congress on Tuesday announced the second list of 43 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in which some prominent names including Kamal Nath's son Nakul Nath, Ashok Gehlot's son Vaibhav Gehlot and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi have been mentioned.
The names were announced for Lok Sabha seats in Assam, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Daman and Diu.
In this list, out of the 43 candidates, 10 are General candidates, 13 OBC candidates, 10 SC candidates, 9 ST candidates and 1 Muslim candidate.
A total of 12 candidates have been announced from Assam, 10 from Madhya Pradesh, 7 from Gujarat, 10 from Rajasthan, three from Uttarakhand and one from Daman and Diu.
Notably, the BJP has announced the list of 15 candidates from Gujarat for the upcoming Lok Sabha election. Gujarat has a total of 26 Lok Sabha seats.
The list includes Union Minister Amit Shah who will again contest from Gandhinagar, while Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya is set to contest for the first time from the Porbandar constituency. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla will fight again from Kota in Rajasthan.
Among those repeated are Vinod Chavda on the Kutch seat, which is reserved for Schedule Caste candidates, Bharatsinh Dabhi on the Patan seat, Amitbhai Shah on the Gandhinagar seat, Poonamben Madam on the Jamnagar seat, Miteshbhai Patel on the Anand seat, Devusinh Chauhan on the Kheda seat, Prabhubhai Vasava on the Bardoli seat and CR Patil on the Navsari seat.
Dinesh Makwana (Karnavati city unit BJP spokesperson) and former Deputy Mayor of AMC are the new faces for the Ahmedabad (West) seat, which is reserved for Schedule Caste candidates.
The seats for which candidates are yet to be announced in Gujarat are Sabarkantha, Mahesana, Ahmedabad East, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Valsad, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Junagadh and Surendranagar. (ANI)
