New Delhi [India], February 5 (ANI): Questioning Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on his remarks on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi asked Kharge which Chief Minister was he targeting in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
This comes after Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday indirectly hit out at Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the post on the "Varna system" that now has been deleted and said that the CM of this country who speaks such a language should be "removed."
"On Friday Mallikarjun Kharge ji mentioned the translations of Gita Shloka which was later deleted. The Gita translation that Mallikarjun Kharge was criticising was a translation from the Gita which was compiled by Assam's first Chief Minister Gopinath Borodoloi. Which Chief Minister was he targeting? It always happens when you don't have full information on any issue," a BJP MP said in Rajya Sabha on Friday.
Recalling the speech of a Congress leader, Trivedi said that by taking the name of PM Modi he asked about the caste of the Prime Minister in 2018.
"Congress leader asked what is the caste of PM Modi, then he took Uma Bharti's name and also named other OBC leaders and said that they didn't know anything. Then he mentioned his own caste saying that only we know about Hindu Dharma. I bet if this kind of language was used by BJP leaders then they would have moved London to New York, and the Tsunami would have come," he added.
Kharge on Friday without taking the name of CM Sarma said that the Chief Minister of this country who speaks such a language should be removed.
"I won't take the name of the Chief Minister who was earlier in Congress but now he is in BJP and 'Laadla' (Darling) of the party. A BJP Chief Minister says 'Farming, cow rearing, and commerce are natural duties of the Vaishya and it is the duty of a Shudra to serve Brahmins, Kshatriyas and Vaishyas.' The Chief Minister of this country who speaks such a language should be removed. How can a person who thinks like this will make any rules for the poor? I am not taking anyone's name," Kharge said in Rajya Sabha.
"I am appealing to the Prime Minister how you have kept such people in the party. That you are claiming that you will bring social justice. That everyone will get justice. Is this the mentality of your people? It hurts me when people in power say this," he said.
He further said that the same thing happens in universities, high-profile schools and colleges. But don't say these kinds of things that "their duty is to serve people."
"I raised this concern because the Prime Minister is present in the House. He will think about it. Later he may call a meeting with the Chief Ministers and will say don't they do these things? I (Prime Minister) may be defamed but will fall from the public eye," Kharge said.
Earlier on December 28, the Assam Chief Minister posted a controversial post stating that serving the Brahmins, Ksatriyas and Vaishyas is the natural duty of the Shudras.
The post sparked a row as the opposition leaders denounced after which Assam CM deleted the post and said it was an incorrect translation of a shloka of the Bhagavad Gita.
"As a routine I upload one shloka of Bhagavad Gita every morning on my social media handles. Till date, I have posted 668 slokas. Recently one of my team members posted a shloka from Chapter 18 verse 44 with an incorrect translation. As soon as I noticed the mistake, I promptly deleted the post. The state of Assam reflects a perfect picture of a casteless society, thanks to the reform movement led by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva. If the deleted post has offended anyone, I sincerely apologize," Assam CM posted on X. (ANI)
