Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 14 (ANI): Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday slammed Bharatiya Janata Party over the violence that broke out between two communities, killing one, in Bahraich during Goddess Durga idol immersion.
Akhilesh Yadav, criticising the Uttar Pradesh government, said that the administration should've taken note on what was being played, referring to the songs that were being played on the loud speakers during the idol immersion.
Appealing to the both communities to maintain law and order Akhilesh Yadav said, "What happened is unfortunate. The administration, government and media know why it happened. Government should do justice. When the procession began, administration should have taken note of its route, adequate security on the route, adequate Police deployment. If I tell you what was being played on those loudspeakers, then government will say something else. But the Administration should have at least taken note of what was being played (on loudspeakers), are they insulting anyone?"
Blaming the government and administration for the incident, Akhilesh Yadav accused BJP of "spreading hatred and dividing society."
"The entire responsibility was that of Administration and Government. Due to the Administration's negligence, such a major incident occurred...Government, Administration and their vote bank politics are responsible for what is happening in Bahraich and elsewhere. They are doing this deliberately...I appeal to the people to understand the tactic of BJP, they want to get political benefit by spreading hatred and dividing society." Yadav said.
On Sunday, One person was killed while several others were injured after a clash erupted between two communities during Durga idol immersion procession in the Mahasi area in Bahraich.
According to the police, the procession was passing by a Muslim area when the two groups argued on some issues.
Bahraich Superintendent of Police (SP), Vrinda Shukla said, "In Mahasi's Maharajganj area, a procession was passing by a Masjid through a Muslim area. The groups argued on some issues. A person from the Hindu community died after bullets were fired on him and thereafter a tense situation arose."
Following the killing, a protest erupted in the Bahraich. Police resorted to tear gas and lathi charge to disperse people who were protesting
According to police, 30 people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident that took place in Mahasi area of Bahraich and a hunt has been launched for the main accused. (ANI)
