Sandeshkhali (West Bengal) [India], June 3 (ANI): Ahead of the counting day of Lok Sabha polls, security forces in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali carried out a flag march.
Earlier, West Bengal police went to arrest an alleged accused in Saturday's violence in Basirhat's Sandeshkhali, the local women resisted and a scuffle broke out on Sunday.The police had come to arrest BJP worker Sadhan Nandi. Sandeshkhali residents have demanded deployment of central forces for protection amidst recent clashes.
BJP leader Amit Malviya said that these women have taken to the streets to fight against Mamata Banerjee's anarchy. As the police entered the village, the woman in the village stopped the police. The villagers claimed that the police were arresting innocent people in the name of arrest.
Taking to X Amit Malviya said, "After polling day, there is renewed attempt to intimidate the people of Sandeshkhali. These are visuals from Booth no 35, Sarberia, Sardeshkhali. WB Police along with TMC goons are threatening people. They said, post 4th June, they will make all the women widows. BJP leadership is currently on the spot. Just watch how women of Sandeshkhali are pushing back, fighting back and revolting against Mamata Banerjee's anarchy."
Earlier, an alleged clash broke out between Trinamool Congress and BJP workers at Bayarbari in West Bengal's Basirhat in the seventh and final phase of polling in the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday.
The Lok Sabha elections in Basirhat, which comprises Sandeshkhali Assembly is a three-way battle between the TMC, BJP, and CPM. The constituency comprises seven Vidhan Sabha seats, including Baduria, Haroa, Minakhan, Sandeshkhali, Basirhat Dakshin, Basirhat Uttar, and Hingalganj, covering the entire North 24 Parganas district.
The voting for the seventh and final phase was concluded in West Bengal's nine seats, including Barasat, Basirhat, Diamond Harbour, Dum Dum, Jaynagar, Jadavpur, Kolkata Dakshin, Kolkata Uttar, and Mathurapur.The counting of votes will be held on June 4. (ANI)
