West Bengal CM recalls brutal killings, ahead of 'Ma-Mati-Manush Divas'

"Tomorrow comes another 21st July! 21st July is a blood-soaked day in the history of Bengal. 13 lives were brutally taken away by the repressive regime of CPI( M) on this day in 1993. I lost 13 of my co-fighters on this day in my battle against repression. 21st July is therefore an emotive milestone for us," Banerjee said in a post on 'X'.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], July 20 (ANI): Ahead of 'Ma- Mati- Manush Divas', West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recalled the "brutal" killing of 13 people who died in the year 1993.
The Chief Minister said that July 21 will be remembered to pay tributes to those who sacrificed their lives in various movements in the country.
"21st July is an integral part of Bengal's public culture today. We remember those heroic martyrs every year on this historic day with love and respect. With them, we also remember all who have sacrificed their lives in movements for our country and fellow human beings," the Trinamool Congress supremo said.
Thanking people for her party's good performance in the recently held Lok Sabha elections and bypolls to four Assembly constituencies, the Chief Minister said, "Simultaneously we observe this day as 'Ma- Mati- Manush Divas', and dedicate our democratic electoral victories to the people of West Bengal. There lies another abiding significance of the day."
Inviting all people for the Ma- Mati- Manush Divas programme, the Chief Minister said, "Tomorrow, to this Martyrs' Day cum Ma- Mati- Manush Divas programme at Esplanade, I invite all of you in Bengal. Like every year, this year too, I trust, our congregation will get meaning through your eager participation in the collective homage to the martyrs."
Mamata Banerjee concluded her emotive post with a poem, "21st July is soaked with blood and tears Tributes galore in remembrance of the martyrs."
The Trinamool Congress continued on its winning spree in the West Bengal Assembly bypolls, clinching all four seats, three of which were earlier held by its rival Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The TMC had won 29 out of 42 seats in West Bengal in the recently concluded Lok Sabha polls. (ANI)
