Pune (Maharashtra) [India], November 20 (ANI): BJP leader Chandrakant Patil on Wednesday denied all allegations of "money distribution" raised against party leader Vinod Tawde, saying that "the party will not accept such allegations."
Furthermore, Patil said that "Vinod Tawde cannot do this" as he is one who worked selflessly for the party and went wherever the party said.
"I and Vinod are old friends. Not only this, I know all his family members. The person who spent his 10 years without any salary for the party, and lived wherever the party said... He worked very long for the party as a minister and held various positions with honesty. He cannot do this.... We will not accept such allegations..." Patil said.
The Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) has accused BJP leader Vinod Tawde of distributing money at a hotel in Nalasopara ahead of the Maharashtra assembly polls, triggering a political storm. Congress demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the allegations.
"Vinod Tawde is a senior BJP leader. His being caught distributing money is unfortunate. The Supreme Court should take suo motu cognisance and initiate an SC-monitored probe," said Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday.
In response, Vinod Tawde denied the accusations, calling for an impartial investigation.
"I was at the hotel for a meeting to brief MLAs on the Model Code of Conduct and voting protocols. The BVA workers misunderstood and claimed money was being distributed. Let the Election Commission and police investigate and examine the CCTV footage. I have nothing to hide," Tawde said.
As voting is underway for 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra, BJP candidate from Kothrud, Chandrakant Patil also appealed to the citizens to cast their votes.
He said "...Voting percentage should increase...I appeal to people to come and vote. We have also motivated 20-25 NGOs to give some incentives to people that if you vote between 7 am and 11 am we will give things like coffee etc to encourage people to vote..."
Notably, voting began at 7 am on Wednesday for the single phase of the Maharashtra assembly elections and will conclude at 6 pm. Polling is taking place across 288 assembly constituencies. (ANI)
