"We tried to make an alliance" says Kamal Nath on differences with SP

"We tried (to make an alliance), it was not about seats, the question was about which seats. The seats for which our people said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would be benefitted, there it could not happen," Nath said.

Chhindwara (Madhya Pradesh) [India], October 26 (ANI): Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Kamal Nath has reacted to differences with the SP and JDU over seat distribution. Kamal Nath said he had tried to make an alliance.
Kamal Nath made the remark while speaking to reporters in Chhindwara district on Thursday.
"We tried (to make an alliance), it was not about seats, the question was about which seats. The seats for which our people said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would be benefitted, there it could not happen," Nath said.
"We talked, we tried our best, our people were not agreeing. Because the question was not how many seats, the question was which seats. We were not able to convince our people on the seats they wanted," the Congress leader added.
Nath's remarks came after Akhilesh Yadav had earlier said that his party felt betrayed by the Congress.
"If Congress didn't want to give seats (in MP), then they should have said it before. Today, SP is fighting only on seats where it has its own organisation. Now after Madhya Pradesh, I know that the INDIA alliance is for the (parliamentary) elections on a national level. If Congress continues to behave like this, then who will trust them? If we fight with confusion in mind against the BJP, then we won't succeed" Akhilesh Yadav had said.
Yadav had also reminded the Congress that the SP had extended support to the Congress to form their government in Madhya Pradesh not once but twice.
"We had one MLA, we were at number two in five seats. At the time when Congress was in need, the Samajwadi Party was the first to support Congress. And the result was that the Congress government was formed in Madhya Pradesh" Akhilesh Yadav had said.
In the 2018 Madhya Pradesh polls, the SP while contesting 52 seats, won one seat, Bijawar, and finished second on five, securing 1.30 per cent votes.
Madhya Pradesh will go to the polls on November 17 and the counting will take place on December 3.
Meanwhile, reacting to the invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 'Pran Pratishtha' in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024, former CM Kamal Nath said, "They are talking about the Ram Mandir as if it belongs to the BJP. Ram Mandir is our nation's temple. It is a huge symbol of our Sanatana Dharma. Is it any one party's?"
Notably, PM Modi on Wednesday received a formal invitation for the consecration ceremony of the grand Ram temple in Ayodhya on January 22, 2024.
Calling it a day full of "emotions", PM Modi said that he felt "blessed" and that it is his good fortune that he will be witnessing such a historic occasion. (ANI)
