We support Jallikattu but cannot impose any rule above law: TN BJP state president

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], Jan. 16 (ANI): Defending the Bharatiya Janata Party over Jallikattu row, the BJP state president of Tamil Nadu unit, Tamilisai Soundarajan on Monday said that the party was in support of bull taming sport but have to bow down before court's verdict. "People are criticizing BJP, I want to highlight that there is nothing to criticise because problem is with the court, it has not delivered the verdict. When the verdict is not delivered, whatever may be the power of Parliament, or the Central government, they cannot impose any rule or cannot do any activity above the law. " Soundarajan told ANI, adding that the government had argued in favour of Jallikattu in the court even though there was some difference of opinion in the party itself. She further said that the Tamil Nadu BJP wanted to conduct Jallikattu and the Central government is also well aware of the emotions of Tamil Nadu people. "We cannot control the emotions and activity of Tamil youth. I have requested the state government to be moderate and protective in their police force instead of harassing them because this is not an anti-national or anti-social activity," she added. The people of Tamil Nadu yesterday urged the Supreme Court to pass the judgement on Jallikattu after a proper analysis. Meanwhile, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) also expressed disappointment over the apex court's ruling against Jallikattu. Protests over banning of Jallikattu dampened the festive spirit in Madurai. Anguished by the continuing ban on Jallikattu for the third year in a row, the people in some villages in Madurai district observed the festival as "Black Pongal." They hoisted black flags and held processions condemning PETA (an animal rights organisation) and demanded that the Centre take steps to conduct Jallikattu. Earlier on Thursday, the apex court rejected a plea seeking to allow Jallikattu played during the Pongal festival in Tamil Nadu. An apex court bench comprising Justices Dipak Misra and R. Banumathi told a group of lawyers, who requested for the verdict, that it is unfair to ask the bench to pass an order. The court had earlier in 2014 banned Jallikattu on grounds of animal cruelty.
